Hot news: Vietnam's Covid-19 vaccine made the antibody concentration increase by 4-20 times

“Made in Vietnam” Covid-19 vaccine had better immunogenicity than expected, producing antibodies 4-20 times baseline.

On Jan 14 morning, Military Medical Research Center administered the second shots of 25mcg dose Nano Covax, the vaccine against Covid-19 developed by Nanogen Vietnam, for volunteers.
According to Mr Ho Anh Son – Vice Director of Military Medical Research Center, after having the first shots, the volunteers were monitored at study sites within 3 days then monitored through phone calls. 28 days after the first injection, all of 3 volunteers were in good health thus received the second injection.
In terms of immunogenicity and safety, Nano Covax showed satisfactory results. The volunteers had blood examination after 1 week, 14 days, 21 days, 28 days of injection. The results were as follow: after 14 days, antigen against virus appeared and immune response was good, expected to be better after the second shots.
Recent researches presented that people had immunogenicity as soon as the antibody concentration were 4 times baseline. Unexpectedly, some volunteers’ antibody concentration increased by 20 times baseline. The second shots would stimulate immunogenicity as well as prolong protecting duration. We would collect blood samples after 6 months to evaluate protecting duration – said Mr Son.
“The efficiency was better than expected.”  said Mr Son
Currently, the research team is collecting data to suggest the most safe and efficient dose for Phase 2 of the clinical trial. As Ministry of Health expects, Phase 2 will take place after Lunar New Year with two types of dose for at least 400 participants.
According to Mr Son, although many people enrolled for the clinical trial, there was not enough volunteers for Phase 2 due to the strict recruiting process.
We are calling for volunteers for Phase 2 of the vaccine clinical trial in order to kick-start in February.
